1. Keep the System Clean
- Empty and clean the tank periodically to remove char and degraded adhesive.
- Never leave adhesive sitting at temperature for long periods when the line is idle.
- Use a compatible tank cleaner or purge compound when changing adhesive types.
- Wipe excess adhesive from the tank lid, manifold and exterior surfaces daily.
2. Change Filters Regularly
Clogged filters are one of the most common causes of pressure problems, poor bead quality and pump strain.
Recommended practice
- Inspect the filter daily during production
- Replace the filter screen or cartridge at the first sign of restriction
- Keep spare 100-mesh filters on hand for Nordson-style systems
- Always replace the filter after any major tank clean or adhesive change
3. Look After Pumps and Seals
- Listen for unusual noise or vibration from the pump - early warning of seal wear.
- Replace pump seal kits at the recommended intervals or at the first sign of leakage.
- Ensure the pump is correctly primed and free of air after any maintenance.
- Keep spare seal kits, piston cups and crossover tubes for ProBlue and 3000-series pumps.
4. Maintain Hoses and Temperature Control
- Check hose outer covers for damage, kinks or hot spots.
- Verify that tank, hose and applicator temperatures are correct for the adhesive being used.
- Replace hoses that show signs of internal degradation or inconsistent heating.
- Avoid sharp bends and protect hoses from traffic and abrasion.
5. Nozzle and Applicator Care
- Clean nozzles regularly to prevent build-up that causes stringing or poor cut-off.
- Replace nozzles when the orifice becomes worn or partially blocked.
- Use the correct orifice size for the application - oversized nozzles waste adhesive.
- Keep spare nozzles and modules on the shelf so changeovers are fast.
6. Daily and Weekly Checklist
Daily
- Check tank adhesive level and top up as required
- Inspect filter condition
- Wipe down tank, manifold and applicators
- Confirm temperatures are stable
Weekly / Periodic
- Inspect pump for leaks or unusual noise
- Check hose condition and connections
- Clean or replace nozzles as needed
- Review adhesive consumption and bead quality
7. Keep Critical Spares on Hand
